How to Prepare Your Swimming Pool for a Hurricane


During this hurricane talk, you’re probably securing your swimming pool furniture and equipment.  But, what about the swimming pool itself? How should you prepare it for a hurricane or any type of storm? Here are a few tips:

  • Keep your swimming pools full: Heavy rain could potentially demolish an empty pool. If your pool is going to be empty, release your hydrostatic valve or pull them. Read more here about Swimming Pool Hydrostatic Pressure Problems and Solutions
  • Practice preventive maintenance for algae and debris buildup
  • Turn off your pumps if debris clogs the skimmers and/or main drains
  • Use caution in your pump rooms. These areas could be subject to the predicted flooding which could lead to electrical shock.
